AMBER RANKIN (Ruskin School of Art, University of Oxford) practices at the intersection of fine art, design and culture, exploring material identity and aesthetics of the everyday, and focusing on form and materiality within contemporary decorative art and collectible design. Known for her handknotted collector rugs and sculptural furniture pieces, each piece is handcrafted-to-order, collaborating with artisans and prestigious workshops across Europe, challenging the relationship between traditional craftsmanship and the beauty in the everyday, and exploring unconventional materials and finishes. All rugs are exclusively handknotted in a small family-run workshop in Bulgaria, home to Europe's last remaining artisans practising traditional handknotting. Each piece is created from locally-sourced wool, applying a traditional hand-knotting technique dating back hundreds years. With a distinguished heritage, the workshop and its artisans have gained the support of high profile clients ranging from King Charles III to Mick Jagger. RANKIN's collectible design objects and corresponding wearables are handcrafted by select craftsmen and Royal Warrant workshops in London.
